Free malware check – are you Infected or Not?
Infected Or Not will do a free check for malware.
Recommended by PC Magazine as a Top 100 Undiscovered Web Site of 2007.
[update of 2008/6/2]
Another free check is available as a-squared Free which is “a full tool to clean your computer from Malware. Not only Spywares, as detected by classic Anti-Spyware programs, but also especially Trojans, Backdoors, Worms, Dialers, Keyloggers and a lot of other destructive pests, which makes it dangerous to surf the web.”
Note: be sure to download the latest version of a-squared Free each time, as it does not automatically update in the freeware version.

Infected Or Not requires my email address and password, which means they can access my email. Then you have to allow an activex control.
I realise that the program needs to access my computer – but surely the activex control is sufficient? Daft!

To clarify — I think they just need your email address, and then you create a new password for the Infected or Not service only — not your email password. It’s a security thing.
As for using ActiveX, it’s not a favorite thing with a lot of people, but it may be needed with older Internet Explorer versions, so that might be the reason.
Any time you’re not comfortable with something (and sites may change requirements after I post them here) — just leave it alone — I don’t blame you at all. This is supposed to improve peace of mind, not disturb it.
