Uh oh. Your keyboard suddenly stopped working, and it’s not a loose plug, because you checked that already. Or maybe your carpal tunnel problem is acting up again. Or your cat insists on sitting on the keyboard so you can’t use it…
Get the On-Screen Keyboard to display, and you can just click on the keys instead.
Windows XP
- click on the Start button
- click on All Programs
- click on Accessories
- click on Accessibility
- click on On-Screen Keyboard
Windows Vista
- click on the Start button
- click on All Programs
- click on Accessories
- click on Ease of Use
- click on On-Screen Keyboard

ZDNet has a post on gMote which “allows you to record gestures (mouse motions) and assign them to frequently performed tasks. Use gestures to bring up programs, Web sites, control your browser, media player, and clipboard. You can even assign your own key combinations to a gesture – make text bold by drawing a ‘B’, lock your computer with an ‘L’ – it’s fully customisable and free. Version 1.31 is a bug-fixing release.”
For Windows 98/Me/NT/2000/XP/Vista. October 2008. Freeware.
Registration required.

Well, maybe your cat wouldn’t really eat your computer mouse… but it could be broken. And you have work to do that can’t wait until you can get a new one.
Internet Fixes has advice on how to use a little-known feature called Mousekeys to work with the arrow keys on your keyboard instead of a mouse.
Now, go feed that cat!
