Lost your Windows product key?

Great. Your system crashed, you had to reinstall Windows, and now — you can’t find that product key.

It should be on your Windows CD… oh, you didn’t ever have one?

It should then be on a sticker on your case… oh, you didn’t ever have one?

Well, try some of the things suggested by Internet Fixes… and try them BEFORE you need to do this, so you have it written down in advance.

This includes Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder: This is probably the best tool for this task. In addition to finding and identifying product keys for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP, it can also uncover product keys for installed versions of Microsoft Office.  It’s freeware.

Wireless security before XP

For Windows other than XP: If you use a version of Windows other than XP, you may have to download a WPA2 client from a third party.

Two such clients that are highly regarded are: Funk Software’s Odyssey Client (free 30-day trial) and Meetinghouse’s AEGIS Client (free 30-day trial). [from WindowsSecrets.com]  These are pay programs.

Other programs may be available for this function.  These are suggested only due to the good reviews received.

Windows ME bug in saving to diskette

Diskettes written to or formatted by Windows ME (Windows version ME came between Windows 98 and Windows XP) may not be readable on other Windows systems. We suggest that you format a diskette on a Windows computer on campus, copy to that from your Windows ME PC, and then bring it back and try it. This is NOT guaranteed to work. This is apparently a bug in Microsoft Windows ME and not the fault of the PCs on campus.
