Microsoft Outlook

[last updated 2009.5.27]

Microsoft Outlook is a commercial (pay) product, usually purchased as part of the Microsoft Office Suite.

Outlook Express, formerly included with various versions of the Windows operating system, has been replaced by Windows Live Mail.

Like many email clients, Outlook can access an online email system and download your email, send email through the online system, and act as an interface to the online system.  This can provide advantages to both you (faster work, more flexibility) and sometimes to the online system (reduced load on the email servers).

Using Outlook with LionsLink

FACULTY/STAFF: do NOT use these instructions for your Outlook; instead use the Help Desk instructions.

Outlook 2007 can be used with the campus LionsLink email system on your own computer (not publicly accessible computers).

REMEMBER: deleting email in Outlook may NOT delete it on the LionsLink server, so login to the online LionsLink at regular intervals to delete old email.  ALSO: you may need to login to online LionsLink once after changing your password, before it will work in Outlook (until the next password change).

Setting up Outlook for LionsLink

If you already have Outlook set up for another email, use Tools then Account settings then the Email tab, and select the New to set up a new account.

outlook1 Load Outlook 2007.

It will offer to set up an account for you.

Click NEXT.

outlook3 Fill in your normal name

then your full email address

and your current password (which is only during the set up of the account)

Click NEXT.

Click NEXT.
Again, be patient and wait.
