Use Chrome add-ons with Firefox

HowToGeek has a post on a Firefox extension that allows Chrome add-ons to work.

I tried this rather than wait for the Firefox version of the Library Extension, which is available on Chrome but only promised for Firefox.

Fair warning – you have to set up a Developer login, check email for the notice, and all the usual hoops for a new service. However, once I got through all that, I actually did get the Library Extension on Firefox working. So, this is recommended!

Vista having problems with Internet Explorer?

You got Vista, and now you get the message “IE has encountered a problem and needs to close”.

Ouch.

You probably need to run a System File Check, and the instructions are available at Internet Fixes.

Vista has some compatibility problems with add-ons to IE, and if the System File Check doesn’t fix that, you’ll need to disable the add-ons one by one until you find the culprit (or culprits).

Add-ons & Plug-Ins for Microsoft Office Suite

There are programs that help Microsoft Office Suite that are not created by Microsoft:

  • Crosseyes is NOT freeware; you must buy it. It allows you to View Codes in Word the way you can in WordPerfect. The program works with Word versions 97 through XP, and with all versions of Windows except 3.1. Recommended by PC Annoyances
  • Word plug-in for ODF is a freeware plugin endorsed by Microsoft which allows MS Word to read ODF format documents from OpenOffice and other sources. Recommended by Gizmo’s Support Alert Newsletter.
