Livescribe : Never Miss A Word

Normally, this blog avoids endorsement of commercial products (“pay”) but this article covers the possible educational uses of Livescribe smartpens and products.

The author is quite impressed with the possibilities that are available for both faculty (“pencasts” with voice recordings in sync with what you write) and students (taking notes with recordings).

I have not tried this product, but it sounds as if it has some very interesting possibilities for education.  It is offered here not as an endorsement or review, but simply as an item for consideration.

Jarte: freeware alternative to WordPad

Clif Notes Newsletter has a review of Jarte, which is a freeware replacement for WordPad. It can do more stuff than WordPad, although it’s not a full word processor — but sometimes you just need to make a note….

It also handles much larger files (over 100,000 words), and more than one document at a time.  You can move up later to a pay version with more features.
