The Windows Club has freeware to Create a Restore Point with single click in Windows in Vista and Windows 7.

Quick Restore Maker will just create a restore point.

The more advanced version, also on this page, lets you name your restore point (very handy if you’re installing several things and want to set a point before each installation).

Freeware.  Recommended by Windows Secrets.

This is actually a program from Microsoft that checks all the things that happen when your PC boots up, and then optimises the settings to speed that up.

Use at your own risk, and do a System Restore set point first, but this could help.  Freeware.
