So, you scanned something in, but it could use some editing before you commit it to a PDF or try to do OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to convert it to text.

One free solution is Scan Tailor.  “Scan Tailor is an interactive post-processing tool for scanned pages. It performs operations such as page splitting, deskewing, adding/removing borders, and others. You give it raw scans, and you get pages ready to be printed or assembled into a PDF or DJVU file. Scanning, optical character recognition, and assembling multi-page documents are out of scope of this project.”

VueScan Scanning Software for scanners

Posted on December 6, 2008. Filed under: Graphics | Tags: , , , |

VueScan Scanning Software solves the problem of making your old scanner work with a newer version of Windows, a Mac or with Linux.

Can’t find a Windows Vista driver to use for your older scanner?  Got a Linux system, or a Mac?  This might be the substitute software you need. This is NOT a free program — you can get a trial version to see if it works for you, but you will need to pay for it eventually to enable all the features and remove the watermark on the images.

“VueScan supports over 1200 flatbed and film scanners and 142 digital camera raw file types, and is available for Mac OS X, Windows [Windows Vista, x64, XP, 2000, NT] and Linux. It automatically adjusts images to optimum color balance, which reduces the need to manually do this in Photoshop. VueScan includes built-in color calibration of scanners, producing colors that look true to life. Supporting more than 100 brands of negative film, VueScan offers options for scanning faded slides and prints, batch scanning, IT8 color calibration and other advanced scanning features.”

This commercial program is mentioned here only as a possible resource for those having trouble finding drivers for their operating systems; this site does not normally endorse or promote commercial software.
